Lefse is a
Norwegian thin bread made from mashed potatoes. It is rolled very thin with a
rolling pin and cooked on a hot griddle. It is eaten with meals as a bread or
sugared and eaten as a dessert.
Only at our own
Scandinavian Gift Store in Willmar, Minnesota. The only other place to get “The
World’s Best Lefse” is right here at www.houseofjacobs.com .
The House of
Jacobs Lefse freezes and re-freezes extremely well. It will keep in your
refrigerator about a week. If frozen in an air-tight container or bag, it should
keep for six to eight weeks.
They are one and
the same. The only difference is who’s rolling them out. Follow the directions,
practice a little and you’ll be a pro in no time.
A potato ricer is
used to further breakdown mashed potatoes, totally eliminating any lumps, so
that a smooth dough can be made. We offer two versions - - one just a little
heavier duty than the other.
Both boards are
identical except for size. We find that most people prefer the large board
simply because it has more working area. If storage space is a concern or if
counter area is restricted, the smaller board is the answer.
We offer the
straight-grooved rolling pin and the cross-hatched pin. Both will work for Lefse
and most other doughs, however, we find that most people prefer the
straight-grooved pin. The cross-hatched pin is frequently used if a stippled
effect is desired.
The rolling pin
covers work extremely well for keeping the dough from sticking in the grooves of
the rolling pin. It makes the rolling process go much more smoothly.
A copy of the
basic House of Jacobs Lefse recipe is packaged with every pastry board
purchased. It is also available in the “Minnesota Cookbook” which is available
on this site.
Both grills
perform equally well for Lefse. However, the non-stick version is so versatile
when used for preparation of other foods, that most people opt to pay the extra.
You just can’t beat it for bacon & eggs or pancakes or French toast.
There is a
one-year manufacturer’s guarantee on both the grills and the replacement
controls. In actual fact, with normal use, they will last much longer than that.
If an item comes
from the Scandinavian countries, we will generally mention it in the description
of the item. We will never say something is imported if it is not.
Many accessory
pieces are available in each pattern. We will soon have them all listed on our
site. Until then, please contact us and we can give you all the necessary
information.
